Arsenal, Liverpool left behind as Tottenham are tipped to sign superb Serie A star Klopp wanted
Tottenham could still sign Arsenal and Liverpool-linked Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs before tomorrow’s deadline, according to reports.
The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the Serie A’s best defenders and is keen on joining a Premier League club.
Ange Postecoglou wants to add another centre-back to his squad. That is no surprise, either, considering Tottenham conceded a shocking 63 goals last season.
The manager has already brought in Micky van de Ven this summer, but with Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga all linked with exits, another addition certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
It seems that Schuurs is the name at the top of Postecoglou’s shortlist. As mentioned, Arsenal have considered making a move for the Dutchman, as Mikel Arteta eyes cover for the injured Jurrien Timber.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Schuurs, too, but the Reds have been unable to complete a deal for him.
However, Tottenham are now leading the charge for the Torino star’s signature and they are working hard on getting a deal done soon.

Schuurs to Tottenham ‘has got legs’
According to Daily Mail reporter Sambi Mokbel, Tottenham could still make a move for Schuurs if they sell some of their centre-backs this summer.
Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Mokbel said: “I think Perr Schuurs has got legs and they have looked at that deal a lot over the summer.
“For some reason they haven’t pressed the button on that, but it will be interesting to see if Eric Dier goes out how Tottenham react to that situation.
“At the moment he doesn’t figure in the plans at all. If he goes out then they will need, in my opinion, to replace him.”
Reports suggest that Torino value Schuurs at approximately £34m, so Tottenham will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal done.
Standing at 6ft3, Schuurs is an imposing figure on the pitch and is excellent in the air. Also, he averages 1.97 tackles per match, which ranks him among the top 19% of centre-backs in Europe’s five main leagues in the last 12 months.
He made 30 Serie A appearances for Torino last season. In the process, he put in some excellent defensive performances and helped his team to nine clean sheets.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham formalise their interest and make a concrete bid for Schuurs in the next 24 hours.
