Arsenal, Liverpool target puts transfer talk to bed after signing new contract

Reported Liverpool and Arsenal target Kerem Demirbay has penned a new four-year contract with Hoffenheim.

The 24-year-old Germany midfielder has now agreed a deal extension which will run until the end of the 2021-22 season, putting an end to talk of a move to the Premier League.

Hoffenheim director of football Alexander Rosen told the club’s official website that the extension was “a strong signal, both internally and externally, and underpins that we are resolutely pursuing our ambitious and successful path from recent years”.

While Demirbay claimed to stay with the Bundesliga club, under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann, was the right option for him.

“Something special has emerged here and I’m convinced a lot more is possible,” said the player.

“The past few weeks especially has confirmed this to me again. In my time injured, I’ve experienced this incredible support again, which has been given to me since my transfer to Hoffenheim.”

The London Evening Standard last week reported that Demirbay was on Arsenal list of summer targets.

New Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat was understood to be an admirer of the deep-lying midfielder, who has previously been mentioned as a target for Jurgen Klopp.

The report claimed Demirbay, who made his international debut last year at the Confederations Cup, was available for around £20million.
