Arsenal make contact again with long-term Porto target

Arsenal are monitoring the recovery of Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to a report.

The 26-year-old holding player has been mentioned as a target for the Gunners for the last few years, with the Gunners and PSG believed to have been chasing him last summer.

Pereira – a Portugal international – stayed put though and signed a contract until 2022 in January 2018.

He had made 30 appearances for Porto this term before he partially ruptured his Achilles in April in a 2-0 defeat against Belenenses.

O Jogo report that Gunners officials have made contact with Pereira, who has been ruled out of the World Cup, to see how his rehabilitation is going.

Despite not yet having a coach in place, Arsenal are pressing ahead with recruitment which is been overseen by their head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and head of football relations Raul Sanllehi.

Goal reported last month that “Arsenal and Manchester United were reportedly willing to squabble over the Portugal international during the summer transfer window” and it seems ARsenal remain keen on the player, who is unlikely yo be fit for the start of next season.

Last summer L’Equipe suggested his release was set at €60million, but he has since penned a new deal, which more than likely saw an increase in that sum.
