Arsenal make offer to re-sign former star as big package is put on table

Teemu Pukki, Fredrik Jensen, Glen Kamara, Finland

Arsenal are reported to have been in contact with the agents of Glen Kamara to make clear the salary and contract they are willing to offer the Rangers midfielder this summer.

The Rangers midfielder has enjoyed a superb season north of the border and Rangers are looking to tie the former Dundee man down to a new deal. Gers have sealed their first Scottish title for 10 years and Kamara has played a starring role with 28 appearances. Kamara does have over two years remaining on his Ibrox deal, but such has been his impact, Steven Gerrard wants him tied to a new deal.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to Leeds United. Their director of football, Victor Orta, is understood to be a long-time admirer of the Finland international.

Interest though is high and our sources have indicated that Everton, Southampton, Monaco, Lille and Borussia Dortmund are all keeping tabs.

Furthermore, it was claimed last month that Arsenal were also considering a move for their former player.

Now, according to Football Insider, the Gunners have made their move. They claim a source has indicated to them that Arsenal will offer Kamara a five-year deal to quit Ibrox this summer. Further reports have suggested his wages will be more than quadrupled were he to return to his former club.

Andy Robertson backs Glen Kamara, calls for more action against racism

Scotland captain Andy Robertson talks about the decision to stand against racism before the match against Austria following the alleged attack on Glasgow Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara and calls for more action from the authorities.

Kamara is currently on a reported package worth just £6,200 a week. That’s the same deal he’s on since arriving for £50,000 from Dundee in January 2019.

Rangers are said to be well aware of the mounting interest in their player. They are trying to pin him down to a new deal.

However, failure to do so could leave them vulnerable to his sale, with the player rated at around £12m.

Kamara is an Arsenal academy graduate, but left in 2017, having only made one senior appearance for the club.

Gerrard fears Kamara departure

TEAMtalk understands that Gerrard harbours fears that the player could leave when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

Gerrard, asked if Gers planned to rush through the signing talks to stave off interest in the player, said: “I don’t know is the answer to your question. If it was my decision the answer would be yes.

“I’ve made my feelings known to Ross (Wilson, sporting director) and the board on that situation.

“Glen has been fantastic for me since day one. He’s grown and he’s evolved. He’s improved and he’s listened.”

Mikel Arteta is looking to shuffle his squad this summer and he says he has the full backing of the owners to do so.

The Spaniard has hatched a plan aimed at improving his squad, which was boosted by permanent deals for Pablo Mario, Gabriel and Thomas Partey last summer.

“The team is going to reflect in better performances, results and at the end of the season. We’ll see where we are and have a discussion,” said Arteta.

“We know what we want to do, we’ve got a plan that we’ll put together. We know there are certain scenarios that can vary, we can’t really control. And they’ll be dependant on things that today we can’t really determine.

“But the plan is to go ahead with what we want and I know they (the Kroenkes) fully agree with that. They’ve been really supportive with us.”
