Arsenal target Memphis Depay has decided he wants to leave Lyon this summer, according to reports.
Depay failed to express his true potential in an 18-month spell at Old Trafford. The Dutchman managed just seven goals from 53 appearances.
He ensured a hard time from press and pundits alike, more often for his flamboyant lifestyle. He was even labelled a ‘Peruvian flute player’ by one former coach.
Ex-PSV star Depay has since rebuilt his career in France with Lyon, but his time there could soon be up. The Ligue 1 side failed to qualify for Europe this season, forcing him to consider his future.
The attacker has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Jadon Sancho. The England man now appears on the brink of a record-breaking move to Old Trafford.
However, it’s reported by Todofijaches that Depay has heart set on a return to the Premier League.
The website claims the player feels he has ‘unfinished business’ in England. Furthermore, he wants to return and prove his critics wrong.
That will spell good news for Arsenal where it’s reported Depay has been placed on a six-man transfer wish-list by the club.
As per the website, the Gunners are leading the chase for the former United man. As such, thet are now ready to open talks over a deal.
Lyon are said to value Depay at €40m (£36.1m) – but that’s a price Arsenal are currently unwilling to meet.
They feel the player should cost nearer the £25m mark given he’s coming off the back of an injury-ridden campaign.
Depay managed just 19 appearances this season in the aborted French season, with just 13 coming in Ligue 1.
But with Depay seen as a priority signing by Mikel Arteta, Arsenal are prepared to push the boat out to land him.
Aubameyang wants Dembele to sign
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants Arsenal to sign Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, according to a report.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen their side. As such, Arteta could wield the axe on as many as six Arsenal first-teamers this summer.
And it’s claimed Aubameyang, who played with Dembele at Dortmund, wants to be reunited with the 23-year-old.
The report indicates that Aubameyang “dreams” of Dembele’s signing becoming a reality in north London.
According to Sport, the LaLiga champions will place Dembele on the transfer list this summer, even though the player would prefer to stay at Camp Nou.
Marca also recently claimed “the Frenchman is one of the transferable footballers on the squad” and the Spanish publication say Barca will take a cut-price €60m for the troublesome Frenchman – a loss of €80m on the player.
