Arsenal leading chase for 12-goal Serie A forward with discount likely

Arsenal are leading the chase for unsettled Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, according to a report in Italy.

Milik continues to be linked with a move away from Naples as he enters the final year of his five-year contract which brought him to the Serie A from Ajax in 2016.

The Poland international has refused to pen a new deal at the Stadio San Paolo, and Juventus have made a move to sign him.

However, Italian publication La Repubblica report that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to avoid selling to a Serie A rival and would much rather offload the forward elsewhere.

He is even said to be prepared to accept an offer below their €50million, and with that in mind the report claims the Gunners are the frontrunners.

Mikel Arteta could be looking for a replacement for current Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, with the Gabon forward yet to extend his contract and could leave for free in 2021.

Milik, who has scored 12 goals this term, is reportedly a target for Spurs and Chelsea, who were said to be the latest side to have “asked for information” about the striker’s availability.

In April Tuttosport, [via Sport Witness] reported that Milik was top of Jose Mourinho’s wish-list with Napoli not keen on extending his deal with the player chasing a €4m per year salary.
