Arsenal move for goalscoring midfielder under attack from Liverpool, as top source confirms ‘realistic’ transfer cost

Liverpool are “highly interested” in snatching a goalscoring midfielder Arsenal have already made contact for, and a top source has revealed the “realistic” cost of the transfer.
Midfield additions will be the order of the day for Liverpool at season’s end. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita will both leave as free agents. James Milner might bring the zero-cost departures to three if the Reds ignore Jurgen Klopp’s plea for a one-year contract extension.
Elsewhere, Arthur Melo will return to Juventus upon expiry of his loan. As such, quantity as well as quality is required when it comes to midfield arrivals this summer.
All manner of names have been linked from attack-minded options such as Jude Bellingham and Mason Mount, to those with an eye for the defensive side of the game such as Joao Palhinha and Moises Caicedo.
However, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, a more creative option in the form of Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindstrom is now in Liverpool’s sights.
The 23-year-old Denmark international has bagged nine goals and four assists for Frankfurt this term. He operates primarily in an attacking midfield role, though can also deputise on the flanks in a front three when required.
As such, he can be viewed as a player in the mould of Harvey Elliott, though aged 23, is further along in his development.
Arsenal plans under attack
Arsenal have also taken note of Lindstrom’s exploits in Germany, with Sport1 recently claiming they’re stepping up their plans for a summer swoop.
Lindstrom is one of two Danes admired at the Emirates, with the other Atalanta centre-forward, Rasmus Hojlund.
However, according to Plettenberg, Arsenal’s plans for Lindstrom are coming under serious threat from Liverpool.
He tweeted the Reds are “highly interested” in the player, with both they and the Gunners “already in contact” with Frankfurt over a transfer this summer.
Frankfurt are understood to be “open” to cashing in in the knowledge they’ll recoup a gigantic profit on a player signed for just €7m from Brondby in 2021.
Plettenberg added Frankfurt hope to generate €50m for the player, though a more “realistic” sum they’ll greenlight a sale for is between €35m-€40m.
Plettenberg concluded the “poker has started” between Arsenal and Liverpool over the signing of Lindstrom this summer.
