Arsenal offered exciting Atletico trio in return for ‘phased-out’ striker

Angel Correa

Atletico Madrid are back in the hunt for Alexandre Lacazette – and are ready to offer Arsenal three players in a swap deal.

Lacazette‘s future at the Emirates Stadium has come into question recently. With Arsenal preparing a big new contract for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they may not be able to guarantee regular football to the Frenchman.

And, with young strikers Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah also showing promise this season, reports have suggested the Gunners could cash in on Lacazette. There is also talk he could be phased out the picture once Martinelli recovers from injury.

The former Lyon striker was linked with Atletico Madrid last summer, while recently, Juventus have been sniffing around.

However, according to Marca, Diego Simeone’s side are firmly back on Lacazette’s trail. Furthermore, they state they have offered Arsenal their pick from three players to fund a move for the Frenchman.

As per the report, their sporting director Andrea Berta has offered them their pick from Thomas Lemar, Angel Correa or Vitolo.

Of the three, Lemar might be of most interest since Arsenal held an interest in him back in 2017.

However, the one they really want – Thomas Partey – seems out of reach with Atletico unwilling to offer the Ghanaian.

Partey has three years left on his contract, but Atletico cannot stand in his way if another club activates his €50m release clause.

The fee, however, looks beyond what Arsenal are able to spend. Furthermore, with Atletico unwilling to offer a discount, any move to Arsenal for Partey looks off.

Reports on Tuesday stated Arsenal had ended their interest in the player and had turned to a Barcelona man instead.

Mikel Arteta has signed Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares and Willian so far this summer. A deal for Gabriel Magalhaes is also near completion.

The Gunners also hope to seal a deal for Dani Ceballos, who is valued at €30m by Real Madrid.

Gunners ready to sell Chambers

However, any further signings will likely be on hold until the Gunners offload some unwanted players.

Calum Chambers: Set to leave Arsenal on loan

To that end, Arsenal will sell Callum Chambers for the right price this summer. TEAMtalk understands Leeds are ready to fight Fulham for his signature.

The 25-year-old has been told by Arteta that he is not in his long-term plans and is free to leave.

As such, Arsenal have made it clear to Chambers that he can move on. A price of around £12m has, we understand, been placed on his head. The Gunners also made it clear they would like to sell, rather than loan Chambers out. As far as Arteta is concerned, Chambers’ Arsenal career is over.
