Arsenal: Beaten by Dinamo Zagreb in Champions League opener

Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Debuchy and Mikel Arteta were rated by the media as Arsenal’s worst players in Wednesday’s defeat at Dinamo Zagreb.

Arsenal opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 defeat in Croatia courtesy of an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain own goal and a powerful header from Junior Fernandes after Giroud had been sent off for two bookable offences inside 40 minutes.

Giroud’s contribution saw him awarded a mark of only 3/10 by the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and ESPN FC, but Debuchy, who lasted the 90 minutes, was not rated much higher, with 5/10 the highest he was rated by one generous observer.

Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, withdrawn in the 64th minute, also received a sub-5 average from the four sources, with the Daily Mail rating him as the worst Gunners’ player after Giroud.

At the other end of the scale, Gabriel received an average mark of 6, with David Ospina and Santi Cazorla deemed the next least culpable players to the reverse.
