Arsenal plotting bargain move for winger who tormented Tottenham

Arsenal are showing an interest in Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic after his stunning performance against Tottenham, reports claim.

Orsic stole the headlines last week by scoring a hat-trick to knock Tottenham out of the Europa League. The winger will have earned himself a few fans among their north London rivals as a result, and now, it seems there is a chance he could end up wearing the red shirt of Arsenal.

According to The Times, Arsenal are now keeping tabs on Orsic and could make a move in the summer.

Mikel Arteta is considering his options in attack after an underwhelming campaign from some of his stars. For example, Willian and Nicolas Pepe have come under the most scrutiny.

Arsenal are also yet to find out if they will be able to keep Martin Odegaard after his loan spell from Real Madrid. If the Norwegian returns to the Bernabeu, the Gunners may need a replacement.

It is now claimed that Orsic is on their radar. The 28-year-old has never played in the Premier League but has just shown that he can compete against English clubs.

Even though he still has four years left on his contract in Croatia, Orsic would be a relatively cheap target for Arsenal. That makes him appealing, as they will not have a big budget if they fail to secure Champions League qualification.

At present, that only seems possible via winning the Europa League – which is certainly not guaranteed. Hence, they are having to prepare for all possibilities.

Orsic could be a cost-effective option. It was not just against Spurs that he has impressed; his overall record for Dinamo Zagreb is 53 goals and 25 assists from 122 games.

The fact that he can play on either wing, as well as up front, also adds to his appeal.

Odegaard blow for Arsenal

The need for a player like Orsic may become greater if Odegaard does return to Madrid.

According to Marca, that is very much a possibility. The 22-year-old reportedly still sees his long-term future in the Spanish capital and manager Zinedine Zidane is in agreement.

This loan spell at the Emirates Stadium was originally designed to get his gametime back up after injury struggles earlier in the season. Now that he is back at full fitness, Madrid are happy enough with what they are seeing from him at Arsenal.

That comes as a blow to Arteta, who would be hopeful of keeping him. There may still be hope, but Arsenal will have to start thinking about alternatives in case.
