Arsenal reach out to former Barcelona coach as Wenger replacement

Luis Enrique is high on Arsenal’s wish list, as the Gunners look to find a coach to take them forward once Arsene Wenger officially leaves in the summer.

A report from the Independent claims Arsenal’s hierarchy have already made an informal approach for the former Barcelona coach.

The Spaniard enjoyed a successful time during his first season with Barca, winning five trophies, including the Champions League.

He has been on a sabbatical after leaving the Spanish giants following three years in charge at the end of the 2016/17 season.

The 47-year-old coach has existing relations with members of the north London club’s hierarchy, and has a close relationship Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s new head of football relations.

Those existing contacts within the Gunners would help smooth any arrival, but it is believed the Spaniard has scared off some inside the club by demanding a salary on par with Wenger.
