Arsenal are set to enter talks with the agent of Philippe Coutinho as Mikel Arteta hopes for a dream transfer, according to reports.
Coutinho has spent this season on loan at Bayern Munich after struggling to settle in at Barcelona, but the German club have confirmed they will not be purchasing him outright.
That decision has led Coutinho to set his sights towards the Premier League once more, where he previously enjoyed a successful spell with Liverpool.
It is the latter who are now said to be pressing ahead with a potential bid, as Le10 Sport (via The Mirror) claims that Gunners boss Arteta wants a major signing to take the club to the next level.
A meeting with the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, is said to have been sanctioned – with Arsenal desperate to beat Chelsea and fellow London rivals Tottenham to what would be a marquee signing.
The finances of the deal may scupper Arsenal’s hopes, but it is claimed they could organise a loan for the player with an obligation to buy him next summer, by which time they may have more funds.
In other Arsenal news, the club are also said to have opened talks with Bayer Leverkusen over the possibility of signing their winger Moussa Diaby, who would cost around €30m.
That would make him a cheaper option than Coutinho, although the Gunners may still have to include players as counterparts in the deal in order to drive the fee down.
