Arsenal reshuffle continues as Ljungberg leaves coaching role

Freddie Ljungberg has left his role as part of the coaching staff at Arsenal, the club have confirmed.
Ljungberg returned to Arsenal as Under-23 coach in 2018, becoming part of the first team staff the following summer.
When the club sacked Unai Emery in November 2019, Ljungberg stepped in as his interim replacement. He won just one of his six games in charge.
Following the appointment of Mikel Arteta in December, Ljungberg stayed on as an assistant coach. However, he has now left that role to pursue other opportunities.
The former Gunners winger does not have any offers on the table, but would rather be free in case an opportunity does come up. Therefore, he has decided to walk away from the club he spent nine years at as a player.
His former teammate turned Arsenal technical director, Edu, explained why the Swede has come to this decision.
Edu said: “We’re really sad to see Freddie leave as we know how much he loves Arsenal.
“However, we know he has had various opportunities over the last 12 months and stuck to the job at Arsenal. Now he has the opportunity to consider other options, and it makes sense for his career at this time.
“Freddie has made a huge contribution in his coaching role, most importantly when he led the team during that difficult period between Unai’s departure and Mikel’s appointment.
“We will forever be grateful for what he did then and what he’s done since but fully recognise his desire to move on and be a head coach himself.”
Ljungberg’s departure follows the recent exit of Arsenal’s head of football, Raul Sanllehi, who left the club last Saturday.
