Arsenal are keeping an eye on Ajax’s teen sensation Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports on Sunday.

Neil Moxley of the Sunday Mirror claims that the Gunners are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old, and even sent scouts to watch him during his recent international debut for the Netherlands.

De Ligt started in Holland’s 1-0 defeat against England in Amsterdam earlier this month, and Arsenal scouts were there to observe him.

Moxley did however claim that: “Within the corridors of power at Arsenal, there is already a feeling his market value may now stretch beyond what they are willing to pay.”

He also stated that adding young defenders is very much part of the strategy at Arsenal this summer, with the club also keen on Bayer Leverkusen’s 19-year-old Panagiotis Retsos.

Arsenal are looking to the future with Laurent Koscielny (32) struggling to stay fit and Per Mertesacker (33) set to call it quits.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also been linked with De Ligt, while Don Balon claimed recently that he has a price tag of €60m.
