Arsenal star rejects Napoli transfer to stay and fight for his place
Petr Cech has confirmed that he has rejected overtures from Napoli to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal.
Cech has one year remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, and his position at the club faces a fresh threat in new signing Bernd Leno.
Leno has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £19million, and as new manager Unai Emery’s own purchase, is likely to dislodge Cech as the regular shot-stopper.
But the 36-year-old former Chelsea keeper is not backing down from the challenge, despite an approach from Italian top-flight runners-up Napoli.
“My contract with Arsenal still has a year to run,” Cech said.
“The only thing I’m preparing for is the fight for the No. 1 spot in goal.
“Napoli were interested but my future is at Arsenal. I didn’t think of changing clubs.”
