Liverpool could land Arsenal star after Chelsea snub
Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join Chelsea and favours a switch to Liverpool instead.
The Gunners had agreed to sell the England star to the reigning Premier League champions for a fee in the region of £35million.
However, Sky Sports claims that the versatile 24-year-old wants to move to Anfield instead, ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose current Arsenal deal runs out next summer, now faces an anxious wait to see if Jurgen Klopp’s men put in an offer for him or he has to wait to join them on a free in 2018.
The midfielder has started every Arsenal game this season, mainly being used as a wing-back, but has made it clear he wants to leave the club.
Indeed, former Gunners defender Nigel Winterburn admits he can understand the decision, telling Sky Sports News on Tuesday: “Personally, I think he has had enough at Arsenal.
“It is time to move on and face a new challenge.”
