Arsenal take new stance over Man Utd contract rebel Marouane Fellaini

Arsenal have reportedly stepped away from the potential signing of Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

United have confirmed that Fellaini has been offered a new deal, but has yet to sign and he will be out of contract at the end of the month.

Jose Mourinho is keen to keep hold of the Belgian, but with interest from the Gunners, Roma, AC Milan, Turkey and China, the 30-year-old has a decision to make.

United published their retained list on Friday with Dean Henderson, Indy Boonen, Zachary Dearnley, Ethan Hamilton, Tosin Kehinde and Callum Whelan all joining Fellaini with offers on the table.

New Arsenal boss Unai Emery is believed to be keen on adding some physical presence to his engine room, with The Times and Foot365 claiming recently claiming talks between the club and Fellaini had taken place.

But The Telegraph now report that “Arsenal are aware of Fellaini’s availability but he is not currently a priority”.

The Belgium international is understood to have turned down a £140,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford and is believed to be looking for a new challenge.

The midfielder moved to Old Trafford back in 2013, following manager David Moyes to Manchester from Everton in a £27.5m deal.

Fellaini admitted in May that the club were doing all they could to keep him and he said United officials knew they made a huge mistake in not offering him a new contract when he wanted one last season.

“The entire staff is doing everything I can to stay. Now I am in a strong position, especially since Mourinho has stated that he wants to keep me,” Fellaini told Sport Magazine.

“Last year I went to the coach and I said that I wanted a new contract. I then had a second meeting, but I will not ask it ten times. Afterwards I became important for the team… And a good player costs at least 50 million euros. The club knows that they went wrong there.”
