Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with sensational moves to bring Luka Modric back to the Premier League.
Apparently Modric, 32, has unfinished business in England and wants to return for one last hurrah.
Diario Gol report that Liverpool are in for the Real Madrid playmaker as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield with Emre Can set to leave and Naby Keita arriving.
The report does though claim that Arsenal are also in the running to land the Croatian and Modric’s desire to return to London could scupper Liverpool’s plans.
Despite the bitter rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham – Modric’s former club – the diminutive midfielder is said to be leaning towards a move to The Emirates, so that he can leave in the capital once again.
Modric has made 31 appearances this season, scoring twice and he is contracted to the Bernabeu until 2020.
In November Don Balon claimed Real were looking for a replacement for Modric and Paris Saint-Germain star Adrien Rabiot was their preferred target.
Modric recently lifted the lid on his decision to leave Tottenham for Real Madrid back in 2012. He traded White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu over five years ago and has since won three Champions League titles and the La Liga crown during his time in Spain.
In October, Modric told UEFA: “After four seasons with Tottenham, where I had grown as much as possible, I needed new challenges for the sake of improving, I couldn’t think about anything else.
“Signing for this club helped me move up to the next level. I am playing the best football of my career and feel better every day.
“Playing in the Santiago Bernabeu is special. It is the best stadium I have played in and I relish each moment. I hope that I have many more years to look forward to [here].”
