Arsenal told to sign Christian Eriksen and to hell with rivals’ feelings

Christian Eriksen TEAMtalk

Mikel Arteta has been told he has a golden opportunity to bring the creativity he craves to Arsenal’s midfield by securing a deal for Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen departed north London last January as Tottenham’s efforts to tie him to a new deal failed. With time ticking away on his contract, Eriksen was allowed to join Inter for a fee of €20m.

The move to Serie A, however, has not worked out as planned. Eriksen has struggled to adapt to the tactical demands of Antonio Conte. The Italian’s favoured 3-4-3 formation even looks to have stifled Eriksen’s game.

With not one goal or assist this season, Inter are now willing to let the player leave in January.

Reports in Italy this week claimed Inter had contacted a host of Premier League sides – including Arsenal – to ask about a deal. In fact, it was claimed Conte’s side were looking to take an unlikely Gunners star in part exchange.

Arteta’s side certainly need a creative element adding to their side. Indeed, Arsenal spent a large part of the summer chasing, without success, Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

However, in Eriksen, Kevin Campbell reckons Arsenal can fix the issue immediately. Furthermore, the pundit says his long association with Spurs should be forgotten.

“Eriksen played for the rivals but we all know the quality he possesses, that is for sure,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“It is not quite working out for him at Inter right now and I am sure he would be a good addition to Arsenal’s squad.

“I do not care if he played for Spurs – he is a superb player who can bring something to the table for Arsenal.

“I would not mind it if we swapped Eriksen for Xhaka. The key is building and fattening that squad up to challenge and you can never have enough quality players.”

Eriksen upset by Inter situation

Eriksen’s struggles at Inter have certainly come as a shock to the player.

He admitted recently that his failure to impose himself at the San Siro was not exactly in his plans.

Eriksen has told TV2: “This isn’t what I dreamed of. All players want to play as much as possible, but the coach decides who gets to go on the pitch.

“It is a strange situation, as the fans want to see me playing more and so would I, but the coach has different ideas and as a player I have to respect that.”
