Arsenal pose threat to Tottenham in tussle for £45m Bundesliga midfielder

Arsenal have joined the race for Tottenham target Marcel Sabitzer, according to reports.

Sabitzer looks ready for a step up after impressing for RB Leipzig over the past few years. The midfielder has been linked with a Premier League move in recent months.

So far, Tottenham have appeared to be the main contender. Sabitzer scored against them in last season’s Champions League, so they know full well what he can do.

The Austrian is now entering the final 18 months of his contract. Leipzig may have to cash in on him in one of the upcoming transfer windows.

That could lead to fresh speculation about a move to Tottenham. However, according to ESPN‘s Julien Laurens, Arsenal are also interested in the player.

The Gunners wanted to bring in another midfielder in the summer, even after signing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.

Houssem Aouar was a major target before committing to Lyon for the season, while their attention then turned to Dominik Szoboszlai – who has since announced he will be joining Leipzig. Hence, Arsenal now have to shift their focus elsewhere.

Sabitzer could be an option, although he would come with a £45m price tag that may prove off-putting.

He also responded directly to the speculation that Sabitzer could join Tottenham.

“As I said, he has made a great development,” Krosche commented.

“It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this.”
