Arteta chasing four deadline day deals, despite Chelsea no-go

Arsenal are looking to offload three players before Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline, but their approach for Jorginho has reportedly been rebuffed.

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that club officials are working hard behind the scenes to “maximise the resource” and there could be incomings and outgoings at The Emirates.

The Mirror reports that unwanted midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been lined up for a move to Hertha Berlin.

Arteta has made up his mind on the France international, but potential moves to Roma, Marseille and Villarreal have all fallen through.

Another midfielder, who has fallen down the pecking order, Lucas Torreira should also finally join Atletico Madrid on Monday.

Goal claimed last week that the 24-year-old will move to Wanda Metropolitano for the rest of the season. Atletico will then have the option to make the deal permanent next summer.

Another player who could depart is Sead Kolasinac, who was left out of Arsenal’s squad to face Sheffield United.

TEAMtalk reported last month that Arteta had told the defender he was free to leave before October’s transfer deadline.

Kieran Tierney’s rise has played a key role in the manager’s decision. The Scotland international showed impressive form last season after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Bayer Leverkusen are understood to be in pole position for Kolasinac.

Arteta is still hoping to add another player to his squad, but his approach for Jorginho has been turned down.

Interest in the Italy star re-emerged last week, but The Mirror claims the deal “is unlikely unless Chelsea get one in themselves”.

‘We have to be realistic’

Arteta’s move for Jorginho was actioned after their hopes for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar sank. Lyon remain insistent that £46m is the price tag on the midfielder.

Atletico Madrid will also not budge on their £45m price for Thomas Partey. It all means that Arteta’s hopes of adding a midfield pivot have hit the buffers.

Arteta said: “Believe me, the ownership and the board and doing everything they can to maximise the resources and make this club successful. I have 100 per cent backing for them. Whatever we can do, they are willing to do it, to support us.

“Whatever we can add of course we will do it. But we have to be realistic. The people here are supportive.

“Whoever jumps in the boat will be welcome. But we all have a very clear direction and purpose to drive our goals.”

while a late loan enquiry for Chelsea ’s Jorginho has also been rebuffed and is unlikely unless Chelsea get one in themselves.
