Jamie Vardy: Felt right to refuse Arsenal offer

Arsenal are keen to complete a deal to sign Jamie Vardy from Leicester before the end of the weekend.

Reports emerged on Friday evening that the Gunners had triggered Vardy’s £22million release clause, which was inserted into the three-and-a-half-year contract signed by the striker in February.

There are claims Vardy was offered to Manchester United but Arsenal have made their move and are said to want to complete a deal before Monday.

The Mirror says formal negotiations have begun, with Arsene Wenger reportedly willing to sanction the four-year, £120,000-a-week contract being sought by Vardy.

Leicester are reluctant to see their 24-goal striker leave and may counter Arsenal’s interest by offering Vardy another improved deal, but it appears increasingly likely that Wenger will get his man without causing disruption to England’s Euro 2016 preparations.
