Former Arsenal player Michael Thomas has hit out at William Saliba for his regular complaints about his lack of chances with the club.
There were fairly high hopes for Saliba when he joined Arsenal from Saint-Ettiene in 2019. However, he is still yet to make a senior appearance for the club.
The defender spent the 2019-20 season back on loan at Saint-Ettiene. Upon his return to the Emirates Stadium for the current campaign, he was left out of Arsenal’s squad lists.
Therefore, he left for another loan spell in January, this time joining Nice.
The deal should last until the end of the season, but there have already been claims it could be extended. It certainly seems Saliba is not thinking too much about going back to Arsenal.
The 19-year-old has regularly criticised his parent club’s handling of his career. Most recently, he blasted manager Mikel Arteta for only judging him on “two-and-a-half matches”.
It followed comments from last month, when he said Arteta had told him he was not ready for the first team – despite his wishes to prove him wrong.
With Saliba quickly becoming a controversial character, he has been advised to tone things down by former Arsenal midfielder Thomas.
“Whoever his advisors are not helping,” Thomas told CaughtOffside.
“He’s a young lad with not much experience making demands and talking without credentials.
“A lot has gone on in this past year and he just needs to knuckle down and stick to football.”
Arsenal transfer decision slated
Saliba is not the only topic of discussion when it comes to questions of Arsenal’s decision-making in the transfer window.
The club recently came in for criticism for allowing one of their longest-serving players to leave.
The decision came back to bite them recently, and it prompted a response from a Premier League pundit.
