Chairman issues transfer ultimatum as Villa eye move for Euros superstar

Attila Szalai, Adam Szalai celebrate Germany v Hungary Euro 2020

Aston Villa are preparing a bid for Fenerbahce centre-back Attila Szalai as they look to provide extra cover for Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, according to reports.

After enjoying a successful season in Turkey, the defender was instrumental in Hungary’s recent Euro 2020 campaign in which they drew with both France and Germany. As a result, the Birmingham Mail believes the Midlands outfit are keen on enlisting his services at Villa Park this summer.

Despite Villa’s interest in the 23-year-old, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc has issued a stern warning about the club’s valuation of the player.

Speaking to Turkish media outlet Hurriyet, he said: “For Attila, under €20million [£17million] should not even be talked about.”

Should they fail in their efforts to sign Szalai, Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe could be a viable option for Dean Smith this summer.

Tuanzebe is well-known at Villa Park for his impressive loan spell in the 2018/2019 season and may seek a transfer away from Old Trafford in a bid for more playing time.

The club’s search for a new centre-back could be the next in a series of early deals at Villa Park this summer.

Having already signed Argentinian playmaker Emiliano Buendia from Norwich, the Villans have also secured the services of veteran full-back Ashley Young from Inter Milan.

Chelsea look to be set to rival Man City in the race to sign Jack Grealish, while Arsenal want to sell William Saliba and Sergio Ramos looks set to move to Paris St-Germain.

In addition, they are also believed to have had an initial bid turned down for Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe earlier this month.

The club are preparing an improved bid for the Gunners midfielder as they look to improve on last season’s impressive Premier League campaign.

Aside from the influx of incomings at Villa, keeping hold of star man Jack Grealish is crucial for the club’s progress.

The England star’s recent form for club and country has attracted a number of suitors in recent weeks.

One team hoping to lure Grealish from his boyhood club is Chelsea, with Roman Abramovich a big fan of the midfielder.

In addition, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his desire to bring the 25-year-old to the Etihad this summer.

The Spaniard has told owner Sheikh Mansour to make Grealish a top transfer target, despite ongoing rumours of the club chasing a new striker.
