Aston Villa swoop for Man Utd star who’s had his head turned, with regular starter to be replaced
Another suitor in the shape of Aston Villa has emerged in the race for a player who is ready to leave Man Utd, according to a report.
Man Utd are expected to trim their squad in the summer. A few players are ready to head elsewhere for more regular action. The summer might be the best time for them to get their wishes.
One player who looks likely to be sold is Dean Henderson, who is already out on loan at Nottingham Forest. He might make a permanent move there, or even return to the Man Utd fold, but there are other suitors for his signature too.
A recent report revealed that Henderson is ready to leave Man Utd for good, suggesting he might have some interesting options lined up.
And according to the latest from Football Insider, Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Henderson.
They are considering him in case they see their current number one Emiliano Martinez snapped up by a bigger club after he won the award for being the best goalkeeper at the World Cup with Argentina over the winter.
The report does not reveal how much Villa might be willing to pay for Henderson, nor how much Man Utd are going to ask for.
His contract back at Old Trafford – where Man Utd are currently debating the future of first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea as well – is due to last until 2025.
Aston Villa braced for interest in Emi Martinez
In contrast, Villa have Martinez tied down until 2027, but there is growing interest in his services. The report namechecks Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan as potential suitors for the South American.
Which of them will make concrete moves remains to be seen. But in case any do, Villa have turned their attention to Henderson as someone who could fill the void.
In order to sign him, they will have to fend off competition from Forest – who will be deciding their preference between him and Keylor Navas, who is similarly on loan from Paris Saint-Germain – and Tottenham Hotspur, who are searching for a long-term successor to club captain Hugo Lloris.
It seems like this summer will be time for Henderson to make the first permanent transfer of his career. Aston Villa might well be in contention to acquire his services.
