Aston Villa threaten to hijack signing of Leeds Utd winger who could ‘immediately’ join Euro giant if Emery delays

Aston Villa are one of two clubs showing interest in derailing a Leeds Utd winger’s move to a Champions League side, per a report.

Aston Villa are showing ambition in the market, though as yet it’s not borne fruit. Indeed, Unai Emery’s side were firmly in the race to sign Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio before being shunted aside by PSG.

However, according to the latest from the Netherlands, Villa may yet be the ones doing the hijacking with regards to Leeds forward, Crysencio Summerville.

The 21-year-old was among a handful of bright sparks at Elland Road last season. Indeed, the Netherlands Under-21 international scored four and assisted two in something of a breakthrough campaign.

Summerville was the Premier League’s in-form winger in the run-up to the World Cup, scoring his four goals in successive matches against Fulham, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Tottenham.

Ultimately, Summerville was unable to prevent Leeds from suffering relegation and as such, an exodus of the club’s top talent is expected.

Summerville certainly falls into that category and per Dutch outlet FCUpdate, he’s wanted back home.

The lively winger was signed from Feyenoord for just €1.5m back in 2020. Aware he’s now a far superior player to the one that left the Netherlands, PSV Eindhoven are showing strong interest.

The Dutch giant are currently without a manager after Ruud van Nistelrooy resigned with a game remaining in the campaign. However, per the report, PSV are stepping up their pursuit of Peter Bosz who last managed Lyon.

Once Bosz is appointed it’s claimed PSV want to ‘press ahead immediately’ with the signing of Summerville. That’s where Aston Villa come in, with the report naming them as one of two clubs who could torpedo PSV’s plans.

The other is RB Leipzig, with both they and Villa casting their eye over the winger.

Little else is given away on what the future holds for Summerville. Clearly, his situation should become clearer if and when Bosz gets the nod in Eindhoven.

When that happens, we’ll soon see how serious PSV are about signing Summerville and that will then force Villa and Leipzig into either acting or stepping aside.

If Summerville wishes to remain in England, Villa are the obvious choice. However, moves to PSV or Leipzig would offer the chance to play in the Champions League.

Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga and thus secured safe passage into the group stage. Eindhoven finished runners-up to Feyenoord, meaning they’ll enter next year’s UCL at the third qualifying round.

FCUpdate didn’t speculate as to how much Summerville might cost if moving this summer, though another outlet has.

Indeed, Football Insider claimed back in April that Leeds would demand between £25m-£30m for the player.

In lieu of their relegation, their demands may have since been brought down a notch with their bargaining power weakened.
