Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has appeared to confirm that teenage winger Amad Diallo is on the brink of joining Manchester United – but did suggest there were difficulties over the transfer.
The October signing will soon move to Manchester once his deal at Old Trafford goes through. United and his current club Atalanta agreed terms on deadline day but the 18-year-old lacked a work permit.
Goal reports that both clubs and the teenager will complete the deal by the end of this week. Indeed, the source reveals more details about how close Diallo is to completing his move.
While he has already secured a permit to work in England post-Brexit, he has travelled to the Ivory Coast Embassy in Rome to finalise his visa.
However, what has already been finalised is his role in United’s set-up – as supposedly outlined by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian views Diallo as “an exciting prospect” and does not want to waste time by keeping him away from the limelight.
Instead, this report claims United plan to bring him straight into the first-team set-up and see how he handles the pressure.
That imminent transfer has appeared to be confirmed by Gasperini. The Italian has also shed some light on the finer details of the move.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport the Atalanta boss admitted the player would ‘clearly’ move to Old Trafford after the issues around the move had been resolved.
“There seemed to be transfer difficulties but as soon as they are unlocked the player clearly goes to Manchester United,” he said.
He had earlier suggested that Diallo could be their ‘solution’ in the January transfer window and said he hoped to work out a deal with United
“The transfer market? We are fine, the club is attentive,” Gasperini said. “There is an internal solution within the club that could be very interesting. Even if the team is fine; it is Amad Diallo.
“It is clear that he is going to Manchester United. But he could still remain here for a few months with us. I like him a lot, he’s only 18. I’d like him to stay until June, obviously it depends on his club.”
Diallo loan move rejected
Despite Atalanta efforts to keep Diallo on loan, United look poised to reject their advances.
Indeed, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that Diallo will be joining up with the United squad this window. He is also adamant that he will not play for Atalanta again.
Romano took to Twitter on Saturday evening to reveal that his arrival is now just a matter of time.
The Italian journalist expects Diallo to join up with the club’s Under-23s initially. However, if he makes an immediate impact he could push for a first-team place sooner rather than later.
