Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is reportedly ready to disappoint Manchester United and Juventus by signing a new contract in Spain.
The 22-year-old is out of contract next summer and had been strongly linked with potential moves to both England and Italy.
However, it would appear that Atletico and boss Diego Simeone are confident of getting the Uruguayan to extend his stay in Madrid, according to reports on Calciomercato.
Juventus had been thought to be favourites to land the defender, having had discussions with his representatives last summer, but are now likely to turn their attentions to Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara.
United’s links were based upon Jose Mourinho’s disappointment with the form of summer signing Victor Lindelof, while there are also doubts surrounding the future of Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly is facing a lengthy injury lay-off.
