Atletico Madrid have reportedly stepped up their efforts to sign £25m Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier this summer.
The 26-year-old, who has won 16 England caps, made 36 starts for Spurs last season but his form tailed off badly as the season progressed – prompting talk that Spurs could cash in on the former Burnley man.
With Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters also at the club, it would appear that Mauricio Pochettino is ready to let Trippier move on – a decision which has also led to surprise links former PSG star Dani Alves.
And according to the Daily Mirror, Spanish giants Atletico are now stepping up their pursuit of the player as they look for a replacement for released veteran Juanfran.
Manchester United had previously been linked with a move for Trippier but they swooped for Aaron Wan-Bissaka instead, leaving Atletico, Serie A side Napoli and Bayern Munich as the main contenders for the Spurs man’s signature.
If Trippier does go and Spurs opt not to bring in a replacement then it could be that Walker-Peters starts the new campaign as Maurico Pochettino’s first choice.
The England Under-21 star made 10 appearances for Spurs last term and signed a new deal last December until 2023.
He showed tremendous potential when providing three assists in a 5-0 home win over Bournemouth on Boxing Day, while he also started the away Champions League game at Barcelona.
