Mohamed Elneny: Happy at Arsenal

Atletico Madrid are looking at Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka should Rodri sign for Manchester City as they waste no time looking for replacement.

Rodri is expected to sign for the Premier League champions in a £62m deal as City look for a replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.

Madrid have the tough task of replacing the 22-year-old midfielder but Diego Simeone has picked out Arsenal man Granit Xhaka as the player he wants to fill the void left by the expected departure of Rodri.

The Switzerland international has 68 caps and 11 goals.

Xhaka has spent three years in North London, amassing 134 appearances and 11 goals, but after another disappointing season where they missed out on Champions League football and Europa League glory, the 26-year-old may be tempted in a move to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Arsenal are thought to be very keen to keep hold of the midfielder as manager Unai Emery sees the former Borussia Monchengladbach ace as one of his key men. Xhaka also currently has four years left on his contract with the Gunners.

He may not come cheap for Madrid, with Arsenal having paid £35m back in 2016 for Xhaka. However, with money raised by the expected sales of Rodri and Antoine Griezmann, the La Liga side will have a sizeable transfer budget as they look to compete with rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.

On the other hand, Arsenal have a reduced transfer kitty after failure to secure Champions League football and therefore may be convinced to sell Xhaka in order to fund their own transfer targets.

Xhaka has stated previously that he has no intention of leaving the Emirates this summer so it will be interesting to see what happens.

The Switzerland midfielder has also been linked with a move to Inter Milan earlier this summer transfer window.
