Atletico Madrid are ready to smash their transfer record in order to beat the competition to Benfica star Joao Felix, a report claims.

Manchester United and Manchester City have been tracking the highly-rated 19-year-old, who looks set to move on this summer, while Liverpool have also been credited with interest.

In fact, recent reports have suggested that Premier League champions City are ready to pay the release clause in order to beat their rivals to the playmaker.

Now, a report from Marca claims that Atletico would have to beat their transfer record to sign Felix, which currently stands at the €72m which they paid to sign 70 percent of the rights of Thomas Lemar from Monaco last summer.

However, with €120m to be pocketed from the sale of Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona, it is possible that the Rojiblancos accept Benfica’s demands and send a huge statement by triggering Felix’s clause.

Felix has a release clause built into his deal worth €120million (£106million) and Benfica are resigned to losing their prized young asset this summer.
