Aubameyang admits Arsenal stagnation as he discusses Emery

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to be Unai Emery’s flexible friend at Arsenal – but says he hopes he plays with “two attackers” for the Gunners.

Spanish coach Emery was appointed Arsenal manager on Wednesday – and has quickly set out his stall at the Emirates by demanding the early return of this forgotten man.

The former PSG and Sevilla boss succeeded Arsene Wenger after his 22-year tenure came to an end and the Frenchman’s last signing Aubameyang has spoken about the appointment of the new manager.

The Gabon international would be willing to play on the wing for Emery if needed, but wishes to replicate his form “playing through the centre”.

“Since over the last few seasons – you have to tell the truth – the club has stagnated a little bit, I think everyone is actually a little bit excited to see what happens next season,” the Arsenal striker said.

“It is strange that the coach has left after 22 years. But that’s life – we have to look forward. It’s going to be a new start so we’ll have so we’ll have to see how it goes… everyone will have to get it into their heads that we have to work hard to rival the best.

“I think everybody knows that I like playing through the centre. I hope that we can play with two attackers – that would be ideal. But if the new coach needs me on the wing, there’s no problem.”

Emery meanwhile appears to be looking at midfield reinforcements, having been linked with a move for both Adrien Rabiot and Jean-Michael Seri.
