Starkly different truth to Aubameyang contract speculation emerges

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Arsenal TEAMtalk

Arsenal are yet to begin serious talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang about extending his contract with the club, according to a report.

Previous reports claimed that, with the Gabon international edging into the final year of his current deal, Arsenal were awaiting word from the striker after offering him new terms.

However, ESPN claims that there has not in fact been any offer made, with the source adding that player and club are nowhere near starting “concrete talks”.

Speculation over Aubameyang‘s future has been rife in recent months, with Arsenal facing a potential dilemma.

At the age of 30, it is unclear what sort of deal would be best for the forward but, on the flip side, selling him when the transfer window re-opens is likely their best chance to get top value for him.

And even though that fee will be lower than normal due to the financial ramifications of the global pandemic, it is likely a better option than losing Aubameyang for free when his contract ends next summer.

The forward, who turns 31 later this month, has scored 61 goals in 97 appearances for Arsenal since his move from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

The next 12 months are set to be crucial for the Gunners because, as well as Aubameyang, the contracts of Bukayo Saka and Sokratis Papastathopoulos – among others – are set to expire.

In other news, David Luiz’s agent has claimed that the Brazilian is very likely to stay with the Gunners, despite it emerging that he in fact signed a one-year deal last summer as opposed to signing on a two-year stay.
