Aubameyang draws line under issue that saw him dropped by Arteta

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has resolved his disciplinary issue at Arsenal after being dropped by Mikel Arteta, the striker says.

Aubameyang was recently left on the bench for Arsenal in the north London derby against Tottenham. It mattered little for the team; they went on to win 2-1 without him.

However, due to his status as the club’s captain and highest earner, it is important for Arsenal to have him available as much as possible.

That wasn’t the case at the weekend, as manager Arteta cited a disciplinary issue for removing him from the starting lineup.

It appears everything has been resolved, though, with Aubameyang writing in the Arsenal programme for their Europa League game against Olympiacos that he has since rectified the situation with Arteta.

Indeed, Arteta has proceeded to name Aubameyang in his starting lineup for the match.

“On my own situation, I have spoken with the boss and it’s all done now – we move on,” Aubameyang said.

“I’m focused on the next game and it’s a big one for us. We fought so hard last Thursday to get in this position, so now it’s time to finish the job.

“There is still work to do. We know all about what happened against them last season. We were in a strong position then after the first leg that time, but we didn’t kill them off and we got punished badly for it.

“That affected us badly – it was a tough one to take. We thought we were through, then it was taken away. For me as well it was so painful to lose that game.

“We can’t let that happen again. We have to use our advantage, be wary of the opposition, but let’s play our game, go for the win and we’ll be through.”

Aubameyang hails Odegaard, Tierney

One player who has dazzled both alongside Aubameyang and in his absence over the past week has been Martin Odegaard.

The attacking midfielder scored his first two goals for the club in the first leg against Olympiacos and then the north London derby.

Aubameyang believes those goals were a product of the effort Odegaard has been putting in – while also praising full-back Kieran Tierney for his own attacking output.

“He scored a brilliant goal in Greece last week, and how he’s got what everybody wants – a goal against our local neighbours!” Aubameyang said of Odegaard.

“He deserved it. He worked so hard. We all know he’s got goals in his game so now he has got a couple, I’m sure he will keep getting more for us.

“He’s so clever. He knows when to arrive in the box and we know we have players from wide who can deliver quality – like Kieran did for the first goal.

“He was so dangerous again for us on Sunday. It’s like having another forward!”
