Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Arsenal

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has finally put an end to speculation over his future by signing a new three-year contract with the club.

The 31-year-old has agreed fresh terms following prolonged negotiations with the Gunners. Indeed, the discussions began long before he scored a brace in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Chelsea on August 1.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta recently told fans to “relax” as he grew increasingly confident over securing his star player’s future.

And Gabon international Aubameyang confirmed the news with an Instagram live video (via Twitter).

“Arsenal fans, finally as you know I just signed the thing,” he said in the video, streamed from the Emirates Stadium.

Over 109,000 people were watching the stream via the official Arsenal account, with Aubameyang adding: “I signed the thing because I want to become an Arsenal legend, maybe leave a legacy, it is the time to work a lot.

“For sure, I will give my best, as always, so yes, I have just signed the thing. Hopefully you are happy and I can’t wait to see you in this beautiful stadium again.”

He was then joined on the call by former Arsenal striker Ian Wright and his current team-mate Alexandre Lacazette, who praised his decision to sign the contract.

Aubameyang’s deal new deal will see him earn around £250,000 per week, Goal reports.

AUBAMEYANG WANTS LEGENDARY ARSENAL STATUS

Speaking in a further video on Arsenal’s Twitter account, Aubameyang insisted he wants to achieve legendary status similar to Wright and former striker Thierry Henry.

He said: “Of course I knew about Arsenal before I arrived. Everybody knows how special this club is. I’ve seen incredible players, passionate players, invincible players.

“I dream of being one of them, amongst the best and staying in the hearts of the fans forever. I want to become an Arsenal legend, just like Thierry, Wrighty, [Tony] Adams, [Dennis] Bergkamp, too many to mention.

“My dad is my biggest inspiration and he was captain of his club and his country, so it means so much to me to be the captain of this special club.

“I want to leave a legacy, this is where I belong, this is my family.”
