Aubameyang posts cryptic tweet that may hint Arsenal decision is close

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has posted the most cryptic of messages about his future at the club.

Aubameyang is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium. However, the 31-year-old remains by far their most regular source of goals.

At his age, though, this could be Aubameyang’s last chance for a big move. Therefore, Arsenal will have to pull out all the stops to convince him to stay – especially with there being no Champions League football at the Emirates again next season.

So far, Aubameyang has given nothing away about his future. When asked if he could give an update after Arsenal’s FA Cup win, he simply replied: “Nothing. Just today and the trophy. That’s it!”

Now, though, he has dropped a hint that a decision is near. The Gabon international took to Twitter to post an ellipsis and a simple hourglass emoji.

When asked if the tweet related to an E-sports team, Aubameyang replied in French: “It’s part of the sand that remains.”

The cryptic message could be an indication that a decision on his future will be announced soon.

Reports last week claimed Aubameyang is on the verge of agreeing to stay at Arsenal. According to The Telegraph, he will see his wages increase to more than £250,000-per-week, with “lucrative bonuses” added in.

Should he sign the deal, Aubameyang would then be under contract until 2023. However, the report said at the time that such a decision was pending approval from his entourage.

Before those reports emerged, manager Mikel Arteta had already stated his confidence that Aubameyang would commit.

“I like the way the conversations are going, I like what I’m hearing,” Arteta said in July.

“I’m sure for both parties, the quicker we can do it, the better for everyone. I am confident he will extend his stay.”
