Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admits that the struggle to find the net is manager’s Mikel Arteta’s current “biggest problem”.

The Gunners‘ creativity has dried up since a 2-1 win over Sheffield United on October 4. Indeed, that game was the last time the club scored a goal from open play in the Premier League.

Since then, Aubameyang has scored Arsenal’s only top-flight strike – a penalty to secure a win over Manchester United.

Several pundits, including Paul Merson, have rounded on Arteta for a response. Former Gunners star Merson also criticised Aubameyang and fellow forward Willian for their lack of contributions.

But Gabon international Aubameyang has backed his boss to overcome the lack of attacking prowess.

“The biggest problem the club is facing right now is the lack of goals, but the manager and the rest of the players are trying to overcome this problem,” the striker told AfriqueSports.

“Even though the results have not been good recently, we still hope that in the near future everything will be fine and we will surprise the world.

“We have the players that will take us to the level we want to get to.”

But there remains fresh doubt over whether Arteta trusts those players; winger Nicolas Pepe received a red card for his headbutt on Leeds’ Ezgjan Alioski last Sunday.

As such, he faces a Premier League ban. But, further down the line, it remains unclear whether Arteta will restore him to the team.

Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi famously faced exclusion for the incident away at Brighton in June. Indeed, the Frenchman has now gone on loan to Hertha Berlin.

In fact, one report has claimed that Arteta is already looking for a new club for the Ivory Coast winger.

The Spanish boss has reportedly informed his superiors that they can begin the search for the player’s next destination.

With that, AC Milan supposedly have two factors in their favour should they firm up their interest.
