Barcelona in a flap as Pochettino tipped to launch huge Nou Camp raid

Reports that Mauricio Pochettino will try to sign Lionel Messi if he becomes PSG manager have reportedly got Barcelona chiefs running scared.

Pochettino 48, is a red-hot favourite to take over at the Parc des Princes following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking. Tuchel was sent packing from the Parisians on Christmas Eve despite winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles.

He also guided his side to the 2019-20 Champions League final where they were beaten by Bayern Munich. But it was not enough for the PSG hierarchy, who crave European glory and continued domestic dominance.

Th capital outfit are currently second in the French top-flight standings. However, they are only one point behind table-topping Lyon and on track to defend their title.

It seems as though the former Tottenham chief will be at the helm for that challenge and they want Messi. The Argentinian will be out of contract in June 2021 and free to talk to other clubs in January.

Barca want to keep hold of Messi but, after he tried to leave last summer, he may move on. The club’s presidential election will take place in January and OKDiario are reporting the Messi situation will be an issue.

Although things seem fine on the surface, rumours of unrest at the Nou Camp will not go away. Manager Ronald Koeman is under pressure, with Barca sitting fifth and eight points off the top.

There will be a few big-name suitors for the South American but he could link up with Neymar at PSG.

Mbappe to make way for Messi?

Kylian Mbappe is the player tipped to leave if PSG’s move for Messi is successful. The France international seems to have been around for ages but is still a relative youngster at 22.

The former Monaco man’s current deal expires in 2022 and he has been linked with both Real Madrid and Liverpool. He is still performing well for the French giants, with 12 goals from 13 league games this term.

Mauricio Pochettino TEAMtalk

The thought of getting rid of a 22-year-old for a player the wrong side of 30 would usually seem inconceivable. But when the person in question is Messi, the rule book is thrown out of the window.

There is still a long way to go before this possible transfer merry-go-round starts to turn. Pochettino will doubtless have his own ideas but there is not a manger in the world who would pass up Messi.
