Barcelona have agreed a deal in principle with the agent of Lautaro Martinez and now have to agree a fee with Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy.
Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona over the last few months, while Manchester United and Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential suitors as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard look to load up their front lines.
Now though it looks as though the Premier League pair will have to play catch-up if they want to get 22-year-old on board this summer.
According to Tuttosport, via TuttoMercatoWeb.com, Barca have come to an agreement with the forward’s agent over the player’s contract in Catalonia, and now they need to find a similar agreement with Inter.
That of course will most likely be the most difficult part with the Nerazzurri having no intention of giving up their star man without a hefty price tag.
Martinez is understood to have a €111m release clause and Inter, per the source, aren’t willing to settle for any less.
The striker has scored 16 goals in 31 appearances for Inter this season, and found the back of the net eight times in 13 games for Argentina.
The Argentina star was asked about a potential transfer away from the San Siro back in January, but his focus then was only on seeing out the season with Inter Milan, saying: “I am doing my best at Inter. I only focus on giving my all on the pitch.
“I am happy at Inter. I try to work hard and stay focused. That’s my goal with this club.”
