Barcelona join Man Utd, City in race for Haaland despite €100m demands

Barcelona are interested in pursuing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, but face competition from two Premier League sides, according to reports.

Haaland is already one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world. He has quickly established himself as a key player for Dortmund since joining them in January.

The prolific 20-year-old has scored more goals than he has played games for Dortmund. He has made the step up from the level he was playing at with RB Salzburg with ease.

In the future, it is likely that the Norway international will take another step up – even if Dortmund are still planning with him for now.

One potential suitor for Haaland in upcoming transfer windows will be Barcelona. According to Fabrizio Romano, via Sport, the La Liga giants are thinking about the Leeds-born striker.

Aware of Haaland’s potential to be the best in his position for years to come, Barcelona have outlined him as a possible target.

However, the Catalan club know they cannot meet Haaland’s current asking price. Dortmund would want more than €100m to let him go; Barcelona would only be able to afford that by offering some players in return.

The striker does have a release clause worth less than that active from 2022, but there could still be a scramble for his services before then if anyone is willing to pay a premium price.

United, City in transfer battle

What’s more, they are not alone in their interest. There are two suitors for Haaland in the Premier League – Manchester United and Manchester City – while PSG are also keen.

United have been regularly linked with Haaland and were in the running before his move to Dortmund. However, they could not convince him they were the right club at which he could continue his development.

Haaland’s father – who used to play for Leeds – has since dampened talk of a future move to Old Trafford. But there is still a chance he could end up in the Premier League at some point.

For example, Man City – another of Haaland senior’s former clubs – will be on the lookout for a long-term successor to Sergio Aguero. It is not yet clear if the Argentine will stay at City beyond this season, but even if he does, they will need a solution for the future.

Haaland would be an intriguing option for that role, but it seems several European giants are having the same thoughts.
