Barcelona identify Premier League hitman as perfect Suarez replacement

Barcelona have picked out a Brazilian centre-forward as the ideal candidate to replace the seemingly outgoing Luis Suarez, according to a report.

The Catalonian club appear set for a major upheaval following several blockbuster announcements.

Firstly, former manager Quique Setien was axed in the wake of their 8-2 Champions League humiliation versus Bayern Munich.

Most recently, six-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi dropped a bombshell by announcing his desire to leave the Nou Camp.

Between those major stories, superstar centre-forward Luis Suarez was left facing an acrimonious exit following Ronald Koeman’s swift actions.

The Uruguayan, 33, became a cult hero at Anfield during his three-and-a-half year stint with the Reds.

A dream move to Barcelona materialised, where Suarez wasted little time in becoming the club’s third-highest goalscorer in just six seasons.

But with his exit now on the cards, the question of who Barcelona will pursue to replace him has arisen.

Now, according to Brazilian outlet GloboEsporte, Man City hitman Gabriel Jesus has been identified as the prime candidate.

At 23, Jesus is 10 years Suarez’s junior. He has often had to settle for a bench role behind City legend Sergio Aguero. But amid the Argentine’s injury struggles this term, the Brazilian has come to the fore.

23 goals were notched in all competitions, including an impressive six strikes in eight Champions League appearances.

The outlet claim contact has already been made by Barcelona over Jesus’ availability, and hint the uncertainty around Messi’s future could accelerate proceedings.

The Blaugrana have a rich history with exciting Brazilian forwards, having seen Romario, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Neymar wear their colours over the past 25 years.

Man City Messi’s next destination?

Meanwhile, Messi has contacted Manchester City and has made a Premier League move his No 1 choice, claim Spanish reports.

Widespread reports on Tuesday evening claimed Messi sent a fax to the LaLiga giants on Tuesday asking to have his contract terminated.

Reports claim the Argentina international, 33, had a clause in his contract which, if activated, would allow him to walk away from the club for free.

However, that clause expired at the end of May. But due to the extended season, Messi’s team believe that should be extended to the end of August. A bitter legal battle is set to ensue. Messi’s current exit clause sits at €700m.

Now, according to Esporte Interativo, Messi is desperate to reunite with Pep Guardiola.  It’s claimed Messi was happiest in his career when playing under Guardiola and now wants a reunion at the Etihad.
