Luis Suarez: Involved in confrontation in win over Espanyol

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has been banned for two Copa del Rey games after an off-field incident against Espanyol on Wednesday.

Suarez sparked a row in the tunnel after reportedly calling Espanyol players a waste of space following Barca’s 4-1 derby win in the Copa del Rey round of 32.

The Uruguayan, who has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, had been involved in the sending-off of Papakouli Diop, who was alleged to have insulted Suarez’s mother after an on-pitch confrontation between the two.

The Spanish football federation has now banned Suarez for two cup games, with referee Martinez Munuera’s post-match report used to charge the 28-year-old.

On their official website, Barcelona immediately announced that they would appeal the ruling, and have denied any wrongdoing on Suarez’s part after the game.

The return leg will be played at the Nou Camp next week.
