Barcelona made a last-minute move for Lucas Moura as an alternative to Neymar this summer, it has been revealed.
The La Liga champions were trying to take Neymar from Paris Saint Germain all summer, with the Brazilian desperate to return, but in the end, the deal was financially impossible.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona turned their attentions to another Brazilian as the European transfer deadline approached, with Lucas Moura identified as a potential target.
However, Tottenham responded by telling Barca that Moura would not be available for less than £50m – a price deemed too high by the Catalonian giants.
Barcelona had already spent big on the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie De Jong over the summer, meaning that Moura, who already has one goal and one assist in the Premier League this season, was too expensive for them.
Such a move would have been made even more difficult by the fact that the 27-year-old signed a new long-term contract with Spurs in August, keeping him in the Premier League until 2024.
