Barcelona’s interest in cheaper Mo Salah alternative confirmed

Barcelona have made an enquiry about Roma winger Cengiz Under, according to the Serie A club’s sporting director Monchi.

Liverpool winger Salah has been linked with Barca and their deadly La Liga rivals Real Madrid after a sensational debut season at Anfield.

Well now it seems Barca have been looking at a much cheaper alternative to Salah, who would cost in excess of £100million if he decided to leave Liverpool.

Turkish winger Under, 20, joined Roma for €13.4million from Basaksehir last summer and has impressed in Serie A this season.

Five goals in 21 appearances league appearances, mainly as a right winger have alerted scouts and Monchi says Barcelona have made contact.

“[Under’s representative] Bayram Tutumlu, who has a very good relationship with Barcelona, told me that they’ve asked about the kid,” Monchi told Radyospor.

“We don’t have any offers from any big European sides, but I’m certain a lot of teams are following him. Not least because of his age, although his goals also help.

“He’s still a young player, but we’re going to help him become an important player here because he has the quality to do that.”

Under is contracted to Roma until 2022 and is likely to line-up against Barca when the two teams meet in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.

“I hope we’re able to knock Barcelona out of Europe, but evidently it’s going to be very difficult,” added said.

“We’re up against one of the best teams in the world, possibly the very best. But we’re excited about the challenge and we will give our all.”
