Barnsley v Peterborough preview

admin

Barnsley head coach Lee Johnson has hinted at giving youth a chance in the home game against Peterborough.

Johnson has no new injury or suspension problems, but could be ready to have a look at youngsters such as strikers Rhys Oates and George Maris, plus defender Jack Cowgill.

Defender Jean-Yves Mvoto remains doubtful due to the groin injury that has kept him out of the last four matches, so Peter Ramage is likely to resume.

The Reds’ play-off chances have faded in recent weeks, with Johnson’s side nine points adrift of sixth-placed Chesterfield with three games remaining.

Peterborough, level on 58 points with Barnsley and also seemingly also out of the promotion picture, will be without Jack Payne and Jon Taylor.

Skipper Payne is a new injury absentee after suffering a dislocated shoulder against Crewe in midweek and it was feared that he may miss the rest of the campaign. Winger Taylor has been struggling with a knee problem recently.

However, Posh hope to have both players back in contention for the home game against Crawley on April 25.

David Norris or Harry Beautyman should replace Payne in midfield while the likes of Luke James, Alan Sheehan, Aaron Mclean and Ricardo Santos will also be pushing for recalls.
