Mats Hummels: Wants to leave Borussia Dortmund to join Bayern Munich

A return to Bayern Munich remains a viable option for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels amid reports the Bavarians have started transfer negotiations for the player.

On Friday, German newspaper Bild reported that Bayern Munich are already negotiating with Hummels and that a transfer fee would exceed €30million for the 27-year-old.

And Hummels’ father and agent has told a number of publications that his son has not ruled out making a return to Bayern, while staying at Dortmund is also a possibility.

“We don’t rule out anything – not a switch to Barcelona nor one to Bayern Munich,” said Hermann Hummels in Bild.

“When you have a junkyard car and get a Mercedes then the decision is an easy one, but when you are already driving a Mercedes then it’s much more difficult.”

Hummels has been linked with moves to Bayern, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United and on Thursday he revealed that all the talk was keeping him awake at night.

The Germany international, who joined Dortmund from Bayern as a 19-year-old in 2008, has said he is weighing up his options with his contract at the Westfalenstadion due to expire in 2017.

In Kicker magazine, Hummels Snr added: “Mats wants to achieve his sporting ambitions and only six, seven clubs come into question.

“Borussia Dortmund is among those clubs as well. That’s a real compliment for BVB. Dortmund is something big for Mats.”
