Bayern dangle Man Utd-linked star’s exit in hope of disappointing Liverpool

Niklas Sule

Bayern Munich are willing to listen to offers for defender Niklas Sule in the hope of luring Dayot Upamecano to the club, according to a report.

RB Leipzig defender Upamecano is one of Europe’s most exciting young defenders and has attracted much interest.

Indeed, chief among those reportedly keen is Liverpool. The Reds are supposedly searching for new a centre-back amid long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has backed the Reds to bring Upamecano to Anfield, perhaps in January.

According to Todofichajes, however, Bayern have a plan that they hope will see the 22-year-old moving across Germany.

The Bundesliga champions are willing to sell Sule, who has been the subject of links to United. Indeed, BILD journalist Christian Falk has claimed that the 25-year-old “dreams” of playing at Old Trafford.

Sule has two years left on his contract but the report claims that a ‘good offer’ could see the German leave.

As for Upamecano’s potential move, Todofichajes adds that Bayern have maintained the ‘first contacts’ with Leipzig. As such, they could come forward with their first firm offer when the January transfer window opens.

But the report says that Upamecano’s price tag will prove the key stumbling block. Leipzig are demanding €60million (£54million) for his signature.

Previous reports have claimed that the Frenchman has a £36.4million release clause in the new contract he signed in the summer.

Todofichajes, meanwhile, adds that as well as Sule, Bayern will allow Jerome Boateng to leave. The defender’s deal in Bavaria expires next summer but he will reportedly not be offered an extension.
