Bayern no to Werner as pundit claims all roads lead to Liverpool

Timo Werner TEAMtalk

Norwegian pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Liverpool is the most likely destination for Timo Werner this summer, adding that there is “no sign” of any interest from Bayern Munich in the striker.

Werner, who has scored 25 goals in 31 competitions for RB Leipzig this season, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga this summer.

Chelsea and Tottenham have been credited with interest but Liverpool have had the strongest ties to the Germany international, with boss Jurgen Klopp said to be a keen admirer of his compatriot.

While Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has insisted that Werner is happy to remain at the club until the end of the season, Klopp has reportedly calmed nerves by assuring that the striker will not be brought in at the expense of any of his current talent.

Taking to Twitter, Fjortoft opened up on the speculation surrounding Werner’s future.

He wrote: “The Timo Werner to Bayern rumour is doing its round in the media carousel.

“There is still NO sign that Bayern is going for Werner.

“My understanding is that Liverpool is the most likely destination if the player leaves RB Leipzig.”

Klopp is believed to be eyeing up attacking reinforcements this summer, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both set to depart next January for up to six matches as they entertain Africa Cup of Nations duties with Senegal and Egypt, respectively.

Indeed, Salah could also miss pre-season and the start of the next campaign if he is drafted into his country’s squad for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Having been quiet in recent transfer windows, Liverpool are expected to be busy with the futures of Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri all uncertain.

In other news, Jordan Henderson has been speaking about the possibility of Philippe Coutinho returning to Anfield.

Coutinho had an impressive five-year stint with the Reds before his mega-money move to Barcelona in January 2018.
