Bayern Munich missing key man for Liverpool clash

Jerome Boateng TEAMtalk

Jerome Boateng has been ruled out of Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Germany centre-back missed Friday’s 3-2 win at Augsburg with a stomach problem, with Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule playing at the heart of Bayern’s defence.

The 30-year-old has gastrointestinal problems and will not travel to England on Monday, but Franck Ribery will despite not being included in their initial travelling squad.

Ribery has just become a father and was ruled out of the Champions League clash, but he has now decided to travel and will meet up with the squad in Merseyside.

Bayern boss Niko Kovac said: “Franck Ribery became a father at night. He will be traveling this afternoon.”

Kingsley Coman will also travel despite picking up an ankle problem against Augsburg. The winger, who scored twice on Friday, though is a doubt for the game after being unable to train fully on Sunday.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “It looks positive, he’s a bit better. We’ll see, we have 36 hours left. I can’t give a final statement yet”, he told reporters at the airport before the squad’s departure.

Arjen Robben (thigh) and Thomas Muller (ban) are also missing for Bayern for the first leg clash.
