Had Bury taken their chances in the League Two clash at Underhill on Saturday, they could have been out of sight.

The Shakers’ first chance came after three minutes when Adam Rooney headed straight at Lee Harrison from close range. In the 11th minute, Rooney shot tamely at Harrison and seven minutes later, Andy Bishop’s finish was ruled out for offside.

Birchall then latched onto poor defending and flicked the ball beyond Jim Provett on 57 minutes.

Birchall was at it again when Jason Puncheon’s cross found him unmarked and he slammed in from six yards on 70 minutes. He was denied a hat-trick seven minutes from time by a brilliant Provett save but Cliff Akurang finished off the rebound.
